If your warehouse personnel spot discrepancies between actual stock levels and recorded stock levels, the appropriate corrections can be made easily and instantly using the “Stock Correction” function for NAV (Navision) and Business Central. The only prerequisite for this is that the necessary rights are assigned using the user administration function for NAV and Microsoft Dynamics 365 Business Central.

To correct stock using the warehouse management software for NAV and Business Central, the respective storage bin is scanned and then the corresponding item is selected. Alternatively, you can also access the item directly. Now employees can use the WMS for NAV or the warehouse management system for Business Central to enter a receipt, issue, or a correction to the actual number of items in stock on their mobile device.

In the background, an inventory record sheet is populated with the relevant parameters and posted to Navision or Microsoft Dynamics NAV and Business Central. Here, too, the posting of the stock correction using the WMS for NAV or Dynamics 365 Business Central is reflected in the item and value postings, and corresponding inventory postings are generated in MS Dynamics NAV or Business Central.

Stock Correction in Microsoft Dynamics NAV & Business Central

At least once a year, as part of stock taking, differences in stock levels are identified and corrected. However, discrepancies in warehouse stock can also arise during the year, for example due to theft, disposal, stock transfers, or consumption of materials without registration in the MS Dynamics NAV (Navision) or Microsoft Dynamics 365 Business Central ERP system.

If a difference in stock levels is detected, i.e., an unintentional discrepancy between the actual warehouse stock and the stock record, authorized users can perform a stock correction. To do this, a report is usually sent to the supervisor, who is authorized to make the corresponding stock correction in MS Dynamics NAV or Microsoft Dynamics 365 Business Central.

In most cases, the discrepancies are first noted manually and then transferred to Navision/NAV or Microsoft Dynamics 365 Business Central. To perform a stock correction in NAV or Business Central, MS Dynamics NAV and Microsoft Dynamics 365 Business Central employ an inventory record sheet. In this inventory record sheet, you need to select whether the item in question is a receipt or issue. Information about the storage location and storage bin code, as well as the quantity difference, is also entered. Alternatively, it would also be possible to manually enter an issue via the item record sheet.

The stock correction is completed after successful posting in MS Dynamics NAV or Microsoft Dynamics 365 Business Central. This posting is reflected in the item and value postings, and corresponding inventory postings are generated in Navision/NAV or Business Central.

Difficulty with Stock Correction in Microsoft Dynamics NAV & Business Central

Since stock correction in MS Dynamics is based on printed lists and is often performed by a supervisor rather than on the spot by the employee, there is often a time lag between the discovery of the discrepancy and its correction in the system. This can result in a storage bin still being suggested for withdrawal, e.g., picking, even though there is insufficient stock there. The differing stock level may have already been reported at this point, but not yet recorded.

In addition, a receipt or issue can only be recorded in MS Dynamics NAV/Navision and Microsoft Dynamics 365 Business Central by means of stock correction. The correction to a stock value is not taken into account.
