Material movement via item number
If stock is transferred by scanning an item number, the desired stock records are displayed on the employee’s barcode scanner across storage bins and storage locations.
Extending the SAP Business One functions with L-mobile warehouse ready for SAP Business One
The goods receipt has been successfully posted and all goods are now stored. However, items often have to be transported to a different storage bin and relocated. When doing this, it is essential that free storage bins in the warehouse can be found quickly and easily so that the goods can be transferred in full or, if necessary, in part. At the same time, all the data relating to a material movement must also be recorded and kept up to date in SAP Business One. The “Relocation” module of the mobile warehouse management add-on L-mobile warehouse ready for SAP Business One therefore enables efficient processes for the movement of goods with the help of barcode scanners. There are three different ways that your employees can transfer stock records in the warehouse:
If stock is transferred by scanning an item number, the desired stock records are displayed on the employee’s barcode scanner across storage bins and storage locations.
Goods can also be moved by scanning or entering a batch number or serial number. In this case, when the desired number is entered on the mobile end device, the stock records are displayed across items as well as across storage bins and storage locations.
Last but not least, warehouse clerks can also start a stock transfer by entering or scanning a storage location or storage bin. In this case, the stock records are output across items on the barcode scanner.
Whichever of the three options your warehouse clerks decide to use, they will quickly get the desired stock records for material movement from SAP Business One displayed in real time on their mobile handheld device. All that is needed for the movement of goods is the desired stock record. Now it’s just a case of specifying the new target storage bin, either by scanning or via manual entry. The stock transfer quantity is entered—partial quantities are also possible—and material movement with L-mobile warehouse ready for SAP Business One is complete. All the information is automatically reported back to the ERP system and posted. The search for free space feature in the add-on is used to select the target storage bin. It enables all free storage bins to be displayed directly on the employee’s mobile handheld device, which greatly simplifies and speeds up the search for an empty storage bin. In SAP Business One, the modified storage locations and item quantities are updated in real time, so the current warehouse stock is always available.
In addition, your employees can see other important information when they select a stock record. This includes any batch information that may be available. What’s more, they are also informed of any possible blocking of entire storage bins.
Standard solution for posting the movement of goods in the ERP system
The “Inventory” module in SAP Business One enables users to transfer goods from one warehouse to another using the “Inventory Transfer” function. The source warehouse of the item and the target warehouse are specified in the corresponding screen. In addition to classic internal material movement, inventory transfers can also be performed as customer consignments. In this way, items that are in stock at the customer’s premises and are sold from there can also be transferred.
With regard to the standard movement of goods in SAP Business One, it is important to note that an inventory transfer table cannot be changed again after it has been created. Instead, a compensatory movement of goods is required to correct possible errors in the system—one of the reasons why standard inventory transfer in SAP Business One is a rather complex process. Furthermore, all postings have to be performed on a stationary work station. To ensure that the stock transfer is performed correctly, postings either have to be printed in advance or the employee must enter all the information in the ERP system after the movement of goods without making any mistakes—all of which involves a high risk of error and may ultimately result in inaccurate warehouse stock.
